SunTrust Announces eBusiness Enhancements

Initiatives Offer Customers Convenience and Security

Atlanta (December 5, 2000) -- SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE: STI) announced today two new web-based products that enhance the financial institution's ability to provide service to its trust and corporate customers. These products have been added to SunTrust's already strong line of eBusiness products and services.

“With the implementation of these new web-based services, SunTrust is moving quickly down the path to establish a base of eCommerce applications that will support all of our customer segments including consumer, small businesses, commercial, corporate, international and institutional clients,” said Gene Kirby, director of Internet and eBusiness at SunTrust Banks, Inc.

SunTrust Portfolio View (sm) is a Web-based application that provides access to asset and transaction information for trust, portfolio management, and custody accounts. The service provides clients extensive information about all their accounts, including detailed asset information, customized bond maturity schedules and historical market values. All of the information is printable as well as exportable directly to a client's own spreadsheet, where the information may be manipulated and analyzed.

The service is available and supported twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and is offered to both personal and institutional customers at no charge.

SunTrust Online FX Trading, a financial risk management product, enables SunTrust's corporate and commercial clients the convenience of Internet-based foreign exchange trading. SunTrust foreign exchange clients will soon be able to conduct on-line trades in 27 currencies, receive up-to-the-minute rate information, settle transactions, and view outstanding contracts and trade histories. The product is currently being tested with several corporate and commercial clients and will go “live" early in the first quarter of 2001.

SunTrust Online FX Trading is made more secure through the use of digital certificates, electronic files loaded on the customers' computers to enhance security beyond the normal password and PIN.
